Are there any ways to keep your prostate healthy naturally?
Prostate cancer is a growing concern. Statistics say that about 46 percent of all men in the United States between the ages of 50 and 59 have prostate cancer. There are over one million prostate biopsy procedures done annually in the U.S. which involves inserting needles into the gland and carries a risk of complications. About 25 percent of these procedures are reported to be positive for prostate cancer.
Prostate Cancer is typically slow growing. The majority of men over 70 have a 50 percent chance of developing an enlarged prostate or hyperplasia, however, this is not the equivalent of prostate cancer. There is a test for the prostate. According to Cancer.gov, “There is no specific normal or abnormal level of PSA in the blood. In the past, most doctors considered PSA levels of 4.0 ng/mL and lower as normal. Therefore, if a man had a PSA level above 4.0 ng/mL, doctors would often recommend a prostate biopsy to determine whether prostate cancer was present. However, more recent studies have shown that some men with PSA levels below 4.0 ng/mL have prostate cancer and that many men with higher levels do not have prostate cancer. In addition, various factors can cause a man’s PSA level to fluctuate including: age, prostatitis or a urinary tract infection. Prostate biopsies and prostate surgery also increase PSA level. PSA level may also vary somewhat across testing laboratories.”

So What can you do TODAY keep your prostate healthy naturally?
- Consume a Healthy Diet – eat organic and stay away from all GMO foods. Tomatoes, broccoli, cauliflower, walnuts, pumpkin seeds, green tea, and vitamins D, E, K, zinc and selenium are particularly good in the fight against prostate cancer. However, eating highly processed or grilled food may increase the likelihood of prostate cancer. Avoid: microwave popcorn, farmed fish, anything artificial and too much alcohol.
- Consider Saw Palmetto: There is about 100 clinical studies on saw palmetto for prostate health, and used in combination with pumpkin seeds it creates a positive synergistic result.
- Flaxseed – A 2008 study in Cancer Epidemiology, Biomarkers & Prevention found that just a little over an ounce of flaxseed for 21 days can significantly reduced prostate cancer proliferation.
- Get your testosterone levels checked. Low levels of testosterone and an increased level of estradiol in men causes abnormal growth in the prostate gland. Estradiol levels in men rise as they age and according to Dr. Abraham Morgentaler MD, author of Testosterone for Life, and men with low testosterone are at greater risk. Some causes of elevated estradiol may include drinking out of plastic water bottles, cooking in plastic and using and breathing synthetic chemicals. (i.e. scents, shampoos, etc.)
- Stinging Nettle Leaf is said to “inhibit the conversion of testosterone to DHT while simultaneously blocking the synthesis of estrogen, helping restore a healthy hormonal balance.”
- Pomegranate! There is tons of research on the positive effects on many cancers and health concerns, click here for more about it.
- Know that Statins may increase prostate cancer risk according to this study. For natural statin options (Nitric Oxide), click here.
