I love pretty things and herb infused water and flowering teas cannot only be pretty to look at, but they can be good for you as well. Recently I went to an organic farm and they had some herb infused water to sample. Not only was it beautiful, it was quite tasty. Now anyone can make this delicious water and changing up the ingredients is kind of fun too. I think both the waters and teas would make a beautiful centerpiece for a wedding shower, don’t you?
In my filtered water I added the following organic herbs and flowers:
- Leaf of basil
- A couple of sprigs of mint
- Three marigolds
- Some snap dragons
- Touch of lemon
There are so many variations of flowers you can use, but how do you know which flowers are safe to put in? Well here is a great link to learn more about edible flowers. Some other ingredients that you may want to consider putting into your water are:
- cinnamon sticks, cloves, cardamom, any kind of fruit, thyme, cucumbers, fennel and rosemary.
Have fun, be creative and don’t forget to put it all in a glass pitcher to show it off. Hints: Keep the pitcher always full or the herbs and flowers will begin to brown quicker.
Here’s another great infused water recipe that includes lemons, ginger and honey (credit: Thank you Julie Taylor)
1. Two lemons thoroughly cleaned and sliced
2. Two piece of ginger about the size of your pointer and middle finger together sliced into coin size pieces
3. Honey – about 1 cup or so
4. Ground cinnamon- about a teaspoon
In a 12-16 oz. jar, combine lemon slices and sliced ginger. Pour honey (organic is best) over it slowly. This may take a little time to let the honey sink down and around the lemon and ginger slices. Make sure when the honey has filled in all the voids and cover up the top of the lemon slices. Close the jar and put it into the fridge, it will form to a “jelly”. To serve, spoon the jelly into a mug and pour boiling water over it, or you can just add cold water and put into a pitcher. Don’t forget to grab some lemon slices and ginger as well. Apparently you can store this recipe in the fridge for up to 2 or 3 months.
If you have a glass teapot, flowering teas are another fun decoration. Flowers that are often used in flowering teas may include chrysanthemum, hibiscus, jasmine, amaranth and others. They are beautiful and yes, you can drink the tea! I love Mountain Rose Herbs and you can find flowering teas for purchase here. Amazon also carries some and you can also find the glass teapots available here.
I love being creative, healthy and fun all at the same time! So much fun…enjoy! 😉
