Can we really heal diabetes naturally? Diabetes is a chronic and metabolic disease defined by hyperglycemia and alterations in the metabolism of carbohydrates, proteins and lipids. Oxidative stress occurs and the rate of free radical production is increased and the antioxidant mechanism is impaired. According to the American Heart Association’s Fact Sheet, in 2010 19.7 million Americans had diabetes and 186,000 youth. Healthcare providers are now reporting children with Type 2 Diabetes, which in the past typically was only found in adults over 40, is increasing at alarming rates.
If you have diabetes, here are some ideas that may keep your sugar levels down:
- Change your diet – Sugar is the Number One culprit. Eliminate as much as possible soda, sweets and breads and grains that turn into sugar. Try to eat mostly organic fruits and vegetables, including: almonds, Avocados, black beans, broccoli, navy beans, peas, pumpkin seeds and healthful fats (including saturated fats like coconut oil). Cutting out processed and boxed food will also help.
- Alpha Lipoic Acid – In several studies, alpha-lipoic acid helps to lower blood sugar levels and kill free radicals. It may help people with diabetic peripheral neuropathy, who have pain, burning, itching, tingling, and numbness in arms and legs from nerve damage according to the University of Maryland Medical Center.
- Use cinnamon daily – According to Mayo Clinic, “A 2012 review of several recent studies concluded that the use of cinnamon had a potentially beneficial effect on glycemic control. One study published in 2009 found that a 500 mg capsule of cinnamon taken twice a day for 90 days improved hemoglobin A1C levels — a reflection of average blood sugar level for the past two to three months — in people with poorly controlled type 2 diabetes (hemoglobin A1C levels greater than 7 percent).”
- Take Magnesium – The American Diabetes Association completed a 20-year study examining the relationship between magnesium intake and diabetes. They found increased magnesium intake is associated with lower diabetes risk and decreased inflammation. Magnesium is essential for the proper functioning of enzymes involved in glucose metabolism.
- Drink Green Tea – A compound in green tea (epigallocatechin gallate) was found to stabilize blood sugar levels of moderately diabetic mice.
- Detox – The detox program called Flor Essence (Essiac)and is one of the very best. It is easy to do, has great reviews and is gentle on the body. You can learn more about it if you read, The Essiac Report. This report has some INCREDIBLE information, including how this detox can help rid the body of toxins that cause so many diseases including cancer, MS, Parkinson’s, Diabetes and much more. There is also a video on this incredible combination of herbs that originated by a group of Native American Indians.
- Black Seed Oil (Nigella Sativa) – According to a study entitled, Protective and antidiabetic effects of extract from Nigella sativa on blood glucose concentrations against streptozotocin (STZ)-induced diabetic in rats: an experimental study with histopathological evaluation, that “administration of N. sativa or black seed oil, at a safe dose level, suppresses STZ-induced diabetic in the rat.”
- Chromium – “A deficiency of CoQ10 has been linked to diabetes. Chromium – a trace mineral depleted by diabetic medication, excess iron, processed foods, refined carbohydrates, and sugar. Chromium is necessary for maintaining stable blood sugar levels through proper insulin utilization. Chromium assists in the treatment of diabetes and hypoglycemia. A deficiency can produce glucose intolerance (especially in diabetics). Deficiency symptoms parallel those of diabetes. Diabetes and coronary heart disease have been linked to low chromium concentrations in human tissue.” A Drug-Free Approach To Healthcare, by Dr. David W. Tanton; Ph.D.
- Apple Cider Vinegar – Research published by E. Östman in the ‘European Journal of Clinical Nutrition” in 2005 stated that apple cider vinegar is able to lower glucose and insulin responses to carbohydrates. Another study concluded that the consumption of apple cider vinegar before a meal slowed the rise of blood sugar that normally occurs after a meal and that cheese ate at bedtime along with vinegar, can significantly lower the waking glucose concentrations in type 2 diabetics.
- Colostrum for diabetic foot. Put a colostrum poltice on it for at least two weeks or more.
- Stinging Nettle – “The blood glucose lowering effect of Stinging Nettle as a medicinal plant has been noted in old writings such as those of Avicenna. Recently, there has also been other investigators that indicate the hypoglycemic effect of ‘stinging nettle’… The active ingredient caused a marked increase in insulin secretion ‘in our experiments. A simultaneous assay of glucose showed that the increase in insulin level was associated with a decrease in glucose level…” [Stinging Nettles for Diabetes Bibliography. Journal of Ethnopharmacol., vol. 89, 2003. By: Drs. Farzami, Ahmadvand, Khaghani, et al., Tehran U. of Medical Sciences, Tehran, Iran.]
- Extract of Moringa – In this PubMed.gov study, it said that “Experimental findings clearly indicate the potential benefits of using the aqueous extract of M. oleifera leaves as a potent antidiabetic treatment.” Amazon reviews include that it can be beneficial for: energy, mental focus, balancing hormones and metabolism, hot flashes, digestion, milk supply, arthritic and sciatic pain, eczema and sleep.
- Astragalus has a powerful effect on the body’s adiponectin levels. Studies show that the higher the adiponectin level, the better and it will promote healthy insulin function. Triglyceride levels improve as well as metabolism.
- Did you know? Liver Flukes, a parasite (flat worm) are said to sometimes cause diabetes? Flukes get into the small bile ducts inside the liver and the gallbladder where they live for 20-30 years. The flukes cause chronic inflammation of the bile ducts causing scarring (fibrosis) of the bile ducts and bile duct dilatation.
- Here is an option for those who like a pill form option.
- Berberis Aristata
Note: Monitor blood sugar carefully when using Stinging Nettle.
