Do you have kidney stones? Then you might want to try Chanca Piedra or “Break Stone.” Chanca Piedra or Phyllanthus niruri is an herb in which the whole plant is used to make this medicine and tincture and is used for problems of the urinary tract, stomach, liver, kidney and spleen.
Kidney stones are hard mineral deposits within the kidney or urinary tract. Symptoms include flank pain and blood in the urine. Why do we get stones? Sometimes we are predispositioned genetically. An imbalance in your urine’s pH level, pharmaceutical drugs and kidney disease can also cause stones. Sometimes we eat too much sugar, don’t drink enough water or don’t exercise enough. Kidney stones form when minerals in the urine crystallize. Calcium supplements and uric acid can also contribute to stones. rays or CT scans. Kidney stones can pass through the ureter to the bladder on their own, but sometimes a treatment is needed to facilitate the passage of the stone and the urine.
Did you know that new research now also points to fluoride as being a culprit?
“In our previous experiment using rats, fluoride was reported to cause renal calcification, whose mechanism was deduced to be due to an increase in parathyroid hormone (PTH) secretion. However fluoride-induced renal calcification that was independent of PTH has not been understood well in the nephron of fluoride-treated animals. Thus, we examined the effect of sodium fluoride on intracellular calcium mobilization in a normal rat kidney epithelial cell line (NRK-52E cells). The calcium accumulation was found to be remarkably increased by the addition of sodium fluoride (NaF). The elevation of [Ca2+]i was demonstrated to be due to calcium entry through nifedipine-sensitive calcium channels.”

Here are a few recommendations to eliminating kidney stones:
- Drink LOTS and LOTS of water!! I can’t say this enough.
- Make lemon juice. At least one lemon per glass freshly squeezed three times a day.
- Drink apple cider vinegar. This helps soften the stones along with the lemon juice, not to mention change your pH.
- Take cranberry supplements or juice. Cranberry is known for aiding the kidneys.
- Try Chanca Piedra. Follow the directions whether it is the tincture or pills.
- Last choice, surgical extraction.
*Some drug interactions that are possible with chanca piedra: lithium and medications for diabetes.
Also, in an earlier post I talked about how frankincense is now being considered to treat bladder cancer. Kidneys, the bladder and ureters all work together. It is exciting to see frankincense for a natural alternative for those who suffer from bladder problems including cancer.
Here is a study: Phyllanthus niruri normalizes elevated urinary calcium levels in calcium stone forming (CSF) patients.
Here is another study entitled: Can Phyllanthus niruri affect the efficacy of extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy for renal stones? A randomized, prospective, long-term study.
Regular self-administration of P. niruri after extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy for renal stones results in an increased stone-free rate that appears statistically significant for lower caliceal location. Its efficacy and the absolute lack of side effects make this therapy suitable to improve overall outcomes after extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy for lower pole stones.
One last study here: Phyllanthus niruri normalizes elevated urinary calcium levels in calcium stone forming (CSF) patients.
♥A product that I have used and I believe is quite beneficial for urinary tract support is Pro Essence Urinary Tract Support Formula. Ingredients are: Prickly Ash Bark, Juniper Berry, Organic Burdock Root, Slippery Elm Bark, and Uva Ursi Leaves.
Kidney stones are no laughing matter and they are not easy to get rid of either. Professionals say that most kidney stones go away on their own and there is no need for intervention. I myself would rather be safe than sorry and drink plenty of water every day. Don’t forget the Chanca Piedra either :).
