Wondering what an essential oil is?
An essential oil is a concentrated liquid containing aroma compounds from plants. They are also known as volatile oils, or simply as the “oil of” the plant from which they were extracted. An oil is “essential” in the sense that it carries a distinctive scent, or essence, of the plant and are generally extracted by steam distillation. The oils can be used in perfumes, cosmetics, soaps, cleaning products, and for flavoring food and drink.
Various essential oils have been used medicinally in history and there are many historical accounts of their use. Interest in the essential oils has increased with the popularity today and are now being used in aromatherapy, alternative medicine, massage therapy, and more.
Many think essential oils are simply not worth the money, but they may provide better health for the family. Up front it may be a bit more expensive, but the doctor visits could be fewer.
I never thought I’d start making my own natural home products, especially since I hate following recipes. But things change and my desire for healthier living has greatly increased.
