Wouldn’t it be wonderful if every day was Earth Day? What I mean is that the preservation and respect of our beautiful earth is something worth mentioning. Our earth, our land, and our world should be respected and we must pass this respect down to our children. A well kept earth, will keep us healthy and an unkempt earth will make us sick. So why not make every day Earth Day?!
Here are 10 Ways to Make Earth Day Special:
- Turn off the TV or the computer and GET OUTSIDE! Relax. Even though you have heard it a million times, the exercise will make you healthier. You will help reduce oxidation (rust) in your body and the brain will function better too. And consider nature’s own Sound Therapy and how about natural bug spray for the outdoors?
- Plant a tree or a garden! Now maybe you don’t have gardening experience like me, but after my first year of planting last year, I’m going to do it again. Just remember to use non-GMO seeds and compost your own garbage. The trees and garden love it!
- Recycle, Reduce and Reuse. I’m sure that you have heard this as well. But we really don’t need everything we buy and we can be just as happy on less. So when possible, remember to recycle or reduce your garbage. Reusing stuff is also okay and if you don’t need it, consider a needy family to share your kindness with. Don’t use things that don’t break down well in the landfill if you can either: i.e. Styrofoam, plastic.
- Drink smarter. Filter your water because there are more chemicals in your water than you realize and stop drinking out of plastic water bottles. People don’t realize that the residue from the plastic leaks into your water and can alter your hormones and even cause cancer.
- Go all-natural. Start eating and living from what comes from the earth. Consider using organic make-up, hair dye, shampoo, toothpaste, face cream and the list goes on. I have and it has made a difference for me and don’t forget to include your pets in this new lifestyle!!
- Like Woodsy the Owl use to say, “Don’t pollute, give a hoot!” Clean up the environment. Organize a group to clean up an area along the river, park, highway, beach or a open area. These kind of events brings attention to the need that we all have to work together to keep our world clean–especially to our children.
- Provide flowers with no chemicals for our bees. Our bees are dying at alarming rates and it is our responsibility to keep them healthy because the work that they do of pollination.
- Stop polluting your indoor air with artificial air fresheners, candles, cleaners and chemicals. People don’t realize the effects that these chemicals have on their health. These chemicals also alter your hormones and increase your chances of cancer.
- Unplug your electronics especially your smart ones, because it saves energy and it also cuts your exposure to Electro Magnetic Fields . Change your light bulbs from CFLs to LEDs. CFLs have mercury and need to be handled and recycled carefully.
- Make Earth Day a habit today and every day!
In celebration of Earth Day, here is my poem…
Earth day should be every day,
Just live life in a more simpler way,
Love each other as in the golden rule,
And start treating the world like a jewel,
Pick up the trash, plant that garden,
Eat from the earth,
But treat it as it has worth,
And respect her because we need each other,
Or tomorrow we’ll have neither.
